India has launched a tribunal called 'The National Green Tribunal' (NGT), to look into the environmental issues, on Wednesday, October 2010.
There are special courts in Australia and New Zealand. There is indeed need for special courts to look after the environmental issue, as there is fast rapid industrialization in India.
The NGT would consist of 20 members from the judiciary and environmental experts. Lokeshwar Singh Panta, the former Supreme Court judge, has been appointed as the Chairperson of the NGT. Environment minister Jairam Ramesh briefed media about the NGT.
