Rail Budget 2012, fares hiked

Business News: The Railway Budget 2012 was presented by the Union Railway Minister Dinesh Trivedi on Wednesday in the Parliament. As expected hike in the fares, the budget brought some change in the fares, which was no hiked for last seven years.

In the rail budget 2012-13 fares have been hiked for all the classes - sleeper, 3 tier AC, 2 tier AC and 1st class AC. The hike of fares are between two paise to 30 paise per kilometer of travel. And the passengers need to pay more their train journey.

Last year, Mamata Banerjee was the minister presented the last year railway budget without touching the fares. But this time the fares have been hiked aiming for better facilities.

The budget includes not only hike the fares but also aiming for better facilities across the country. The budget also aims to establish 100 stations across the country in five year through PPP.

In his budget speech the railway minister said that during the 12th five year plan period - 2012-17, the railways would invest Rs. 7.35 lakh crore.

There was mixed reaction over the presented railway budget, people expressed their views through news channels - seem not concerned with the hike that as expected, simultaneously asked for better facilities during their travel.
