What is Health? And What are the Determining Facts

Now a days we hear a lot about health. But, do we really know what health is? According to World Health Organization, “Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity."

There are two aspects of health namely physical and mental health. Physical health or physical well being is a result of, balanced and nutritive intake of food, proper weight management, giving required rest or sleep to the body, and staying away from things such as alcohol, drugs, smoking and other habits that result in ill health.

According to WHO mental health is "a state of well-being in which the individual realizes his or her own abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to his or her community".

The health of an individual is affected by various factors. An individual’s health condition is determined by the environment he lives, his situations in life, and the care he takes towards himself, to maintain healthy body.

Factors such as, where we live? Our environment, individual’s genetical factors, an individual’s education, his income level, and lastly the way an individual keeps up his relations with his family and friends. All these factors determine an individual’s health condition to a great extent.

Person’s who enjoy good social status and economic freedom is likely to have good health when compared to those who are financially and socially weak. A study shows that People with low level education are likely to experience poor health where are people who are highly educated and those who have health education are likely to live longer.

People who have support from their peers and family members let it be moral or other is likely to have good health when compared to those who don’t have others support.
