The recently concluded civic poll in Odisha has shown that the NaMo facto did not work to lure the urban voters in Odisha. In the municipal and notified area council elections, the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) the ruling party still at the top and people of the state have given mandate to the ruling party again.

The Congress party is at the second position with having many councillors in the state. The party which suffered most is the BJP in the state. Comparing to the election results of 2008, most of the councillor contestants of the party have lost the election.

People have also given mandate to some independent candidates in many wards. According to media reports, the independent candidates do play a major role in king maker. The big question is why the urban voters have not shown interest in the NaMo – Narendra Modi factor, that did not work for the BJP.

The parties – BJD and Congress have high expectation for the forthcoming general election in 2014, as they got the support of the people in the recent elections.
