Odissi Performance Regales Audience at Old Fort Dance Festival

IN · · Leave a Comment
Odissi Performance
New Delhi, Oct 11, 2015:  Veteran Odissi exponent and Padma Shri Madhvi Mudgal and her group of dancers performed at the Old Fort Dance Festival today, bringing alive the oldest surviving dance form of India for Delhi’s connoisseurs of classical dance.

Presented by the Sahitya Kala Parishad & Department of Art, Culture & Languages, Government of Delhi, the Old Fort Dance Festival is showcasing some of India’s most treasured classical dance forms.

The festival, that will end tomorrow, has been much appreciated and loved by the audience who have turned out in good numbers every day. The majestic ruins of Delhi’s Purana Qila have provided a fine ambience to this unique festival celebrating India’s classical dance forms.

The five-day festival of choreographies in classical dance forms has seen participation of veteran and legendary dance artists and their groups in multiple dance forms including Bharati Shivaji, Raja and Radha Reddy, among others. Legendary Kathak exponent Pandit Birju Maharaj will perform with his group on the last day of the festival.

On the sidelines of the festival, critically acclaimed artist Manav Gupta is displaying his latest installation – a waterfront of Ganga made out of chilams and diyas which are elements of nature. He has been working since long to create public art sculptures that generate concern towards sustainability. “This innovative art practice with potter’s clay (chilams and diyas) represents the tool as a means of getting intoxicated with the rain of love and also explores sustainable development”, says Mr. Gupta.

“The repertoire of Indian classical dances represents centuries of culture and tradition that has been preserved and sustained by generations of devoted exponents and earnest artists. Across the globe, Indian classical dance forms are appreciated and loved by dance lovers. Such festivals help extend the reach of classical dance forms to not just connoisseurs of dance but also to common people,” says Pandit Birju Maharaj.

“The idea behind the Old Delhi Dance Festival to juxtapose cultural heritage with structural heritage is a wonderful concept. The Purana Qila presents a poignant background to the performance of India’s most notable classical dance forms, some of whom originated centuries back in ancient and medieval times,” says Ms Leela Samson.

The festival will end with a performance of Kathak choreographed by none other than Pandit Birju Maharaj and his Group. The legendary exponent of Kathak has received numeours accolades over the years including Padma Vibhushan, sangeet Natak Academi Award and the prestigious Kalidas Samman.

Top Five Quotes from Buddhist Scripture to follow

IN · · Leave a Comment
We are lost in our busy schedules, event do not think ourselves. Hardly do we remember the purpose of life we lead. When it comes to professional front, all of us are successful since we cater more time towards our goal. But fail to introspect, when we think about inner peace.

Leading a life as machines is not the true meaning either. The word “GOD” has been there and we come across at least once in a day because the world is the wonderful way to see our inner peace- who we are; what is the aim of our life.

Obviously money is not God’s will otherwise all richest men in the world could have achieved ‘Nirvana’. No matter what you do who you are – you identity still a ‘Human’ – intellectual and noble.

The following top five quotes made me to write this post as we look for resources for relaxing, stress management, positive living, mind control and positive thinking.

Just read these quotes, hope you will find those not only heart touching but feel the touch of Buddhist philosophy.

  1. “No one saves us but ourselves. No one can and no one may. We ourselves must walk the path.”
  2. “Holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone else; you are the one who gets burned.”
  3. “Purity or impurity depends on oneself, No one can purify another.”
  4. “True love is born from understanding.”
  5. “A man is not called wise because he talks and talks again; but if he is peaceful, loving and fearless then he is in truth called wise.”

Odisha in Earthquake Prone Zone – How safe is Your Home? - Know

IN · · Leave a Comment
Natural Calamities such as Floods, cyclones and earth quakes are not new to Odisha, and these are recurrent. But what the latest statistics reveal about Odisha should be bothering us. According to Mr. K. V. Singh Deo, seventeen districts among 30 come under Earth Quake Vulnerable Zone III, either fully or partially.

The Earth Quake Zone includes 43 urban areas that include Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, Dhenkanal, Talcher, Angul, Balasore and Paradip. In such situation questions arise about the safety of the houses and the apartments we are residing in. But how do we know if the buildings can with stand earth quake? Or if the construction company has taken any such measures during the construction?

Well, as far as Odisha is concerned, BDA has made it compulsory to obtain a certificate from one of the empanelled structural engineers that the building plan can withstand earth quake. It is compulsory for any real estate developer to obtain this certificate from the engineer before obtaining approval of any construction.

earthquake prone zone odisha
The process does not stop here, before handing over the possession of flats or houses to the individuals, the builder needs to produce adherence of its structural plan by the concerned engineer. In case of high raise buildings which are above 30 meters, it is must that the structural plan is checked by NIT or IIT.

But what happens in most of the cases is that the real estate developers knowingly ignore structural safety, just to avoid additional costs. Many individuals who construct individual houses avoid taking plan from the engineers to reduce the costs, which is not at all safe for the construction and the people residing in it.

Just as people look for safety measures in other things, they should also look if safety measures have been taken by the developers before purchasing a flat or an individual structure, and they should ask for and cross check the documents to see if those specifications have been met.

Government is taking measures to see that earth quake resistance norms are followed by those concerned. But there is great need to increase awareness and to educate people regarding the safety measures in construction, against earth quakes.

Bottleneck is Prime Concern in Odisha?

IN · · Leave a Comment
patatoes
The cyclone in Odisha is proved a double edge sword for the people – first the panic of cyclone aftermath and the sky rocketing prices. In the market, the price of vegetables is out of reach of the people due the bottleneck in the supply side.

Once potato was common vegetable and popular food recipe in the state, but of late the scenario has been changed. The price has been doubled since the cyclone struck the coastal belt of the state. In the list of dearer goods, onion has been in the list and the same was missing from the market across the country let alone Odisha market.

Next the potato followed by rumors about the salt in the market. It is the perfect time for the vendors and dealers to practice the bottleneck method to gain maximum profit in short period.

In economics, the supply and demand forces in the market determine the price. That is fact, when it comes to bottleneck over the supply side; it is obvious that demand would go high making the price of the goods to a new high.

In order to control the situation the state government has made adequate steps to check the bottleneck by ordering potatoes from neighbor states. In a next couple of weeks, the situation would be normal again since the supply side correction would bring down the price in the market.

But the big question is that, should there not be any mechanism to check the bottleneck beforehand.
