BJP fails in Bihar Elections after Delhi, why?

By Neelakantha Achary: Indian political scenario has been changing significantly since general elections in 2014. The general elections resulted in favor of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which led government the centre with its allies under the name of National Democratic Alliance (NDA). Not only that, the BJP emerged as single largest party in the elections getting clear mandate of two-third majority.

The party, which won the election over development as top agenda, has seen major setback assembly elections – Delhi and Bihar. The party had to pay high price for using – beef politics, controversial statements, communal cards and many more in Bihar assembly elections.

However, the Delhi election results shattered the pride of the party, which emerged as singles largest party in general elections, has lost drastically reducing to only three assembly seats – rest was a clear sweep by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) led by Arvind Kejriwal. The debacle in Delhi assembly polls is not a small thing for the party; it could have revived its policies before pitching for Bihar polls.

It was clear from the Delhi assembly polls that so called ‘Modi Wave’ is no longer going to sprinkle its magic on voters in the regional politics. For the second time, the party had to witness huge embarrassment in Bihar after defeat in Delhi.

There are few factors those cause defeat in Bihar elections viz., reservation politics, beef politics, no project of chief ministerial candidate, regional politics and seat sharing.

Reservation politics: The party suffered defeat in Bihar polls due its unclear stand on reservations. The fist damage was caused by a statement from RSS chief over reservations. The BJP did not put its version to the statement immediately. Prime Minister made statement over the reservation after a week or so, by then it was too late for the party – damage already done. A fear of the ‘end of reservations’ if BJP comes to power might have caused the damage.

In an interview to Barkha Dutt on NDTV, Lalu Prasad Yadav, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief challenged the BJP leaders to tear the book of RSS, where the ideology of Sangh over reservations is mentioned.

Beef Politics: The party went an extra mile over the issue in the Bihar elections. Advertisements, statements and repeating of beef issues time and again caused a big dent to party’s image. Some incidents related to beef, however triggered massive protest in India against the party and government. In such scenario, the party could have stopped its leaders from raising such sensitive issues during the elections.

CM Candidate: The party did not project chief ministerial candidate in Bihar elections which could be the biggest mistake that caused a big defeat. It was sure that projection of leader could give some mileage to the party in the elections. However, the party has received high voter percentage in the election than any other party in Bihar elections. And, it would get more by project a face that voters wanted to see as chief minister giving a tough fight to Nitish Kumar, a JD-U leader from Bihar and currently become chief minister of Bihar for fifth time.

Regional Politics: The party has failed to read the regional politics in these elections – Delhi and Bihar, where regional issues and faces are deciding factors. However, it was clear from the coalition of RJD and JDU that these two major regional parties are going to retain their vote banks in their respective areas. And, in the regional politics, the role of communities is decisive factor. These two parties have managed to get support from the communities in Bihar. Case system has left its impression the recently election giving clear majority to Grand Alliance.

Seat Sharing: This was another biggest factor that cause debacle for the party in the elections. A close study over the seat sharing of BJP and JD-U shows that the Nitish’s party has contested in fifty out of 101 with BJP. And, the rest were witnessed direct contest between BJP – RJD, BJP-Congress. This was the biggest factor that managed the Grand Alliance to get maximum seats. It was just like the two parties – JD-U and RJD dominated in all the constituencies they contested. A tweak in the seat sharing could have major impact on the results.

However, at the end it was the day of Nitish Kumar, who emerged as leader of Bihar. He recently took oath as chief minister of Bihar for the fifth time. The BJP leaders need to introspect about the policies and causes of the defeat. It was evident from the senior BJP leaders like Advani, Joshi and other raised their concerns over the defeat and asked the party leadership for introspection.

Odisha BJP observes Satyagraha

Today was a full hectic day for Bharatiya Janata Party leaders in Odisha as the party leaders across the state observed 'Satyagraha'.

The campaign was organized in all 147 constituencies in the state to highlight the achievements of Narendra Modi government at Centre.

The BJP leaders have staged peacefully at various places since they named it 'Satyagraha' on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti - 146th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

The BJP leaders of the state participated and observed it giving full and loud signal to the state government.

State BJP President K V Singhdeo said in Bhubaneswar that the BJD party failed to keep its promises made during the elections in the manifesto.

He also challenged the state government for open debate on the issues of centre's negligence to Odisha.

There is series of 'Five Questions' quzz everywhere from Delhi to Goa. BJP put five questions to Aam Admi Party (AAP) for Delhi elections. Why Congress should calm of the issue? So, it came put 'Five questions' to BJP in Goa.

BJP asked the question the AAP and media has all the five questions. But, Congress's five questions set for BJP is not disclosed, it has prepared but not unfold the cards yet. Seems, Congress party has assigned its top brass leaders in the assignment to prepare these questions.

One thing is missing in the five questions, are these questions has any relation with Common Man,,,may be not. Here, I would like to pay tribute to 'Common Man' , the great cartoonist  R K Laxam, who is no more. In the field of journalism he left is mark for ever.

Lets come to main topic of five questions sets.There is one more question about these 'five questions'... why only five.. why not 10 or 20? Who is stopping anyone to raise questions? Recently we celebrated 66th Republic Day and we have many questions for the leaders those ruled us for nearly 6 decades.

Parties have been ruling the country and so as the people electing them for these time. A lay man may have questions, but the drawback is he or she has no voice.. means party or any power? Another interesting about this - just like game shows - question will remain but other things will change.

Will the parties be raise these questions once the election are over? If yes, then we are in true democracy, and if not then election, politics are just eye wash.

Modi Wave in Maharashtra and Haryana

What could be spectacular, than winning two states in the assembly elections - Maharashtra and Haryana - for the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ? It is the victory for the saffron party  in the land of Maratha, where it had alliance with Shiv Sena for last 25 years.

The split was proved in the favour of the BJP and people have given a mandate to the BJP. To form the government in Maharashtra, BJP needs 23 members' support, it has 122 seats in 288 member-Assembly. The NCP would support the BJP government in Maharashtra from out side.

Modi wave was the prime force that brought vote swing the assembly elections in Maharashtra and Haryana. Where voters have bestowed their confidence on the BJP and the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who completed 100 plus days in his office.

With the winning two more states into BJP's account, the chief Amit Shah becomes most powerful person in Indian politics, who had played a major role in shaping the party's performance in the general elections.

Shiv Sena won 63 seats in Maharashtra, was the old ally of BJP, broken the alliance over the issue of seat sharing. With NCP agreeing to support the BJP to form the government, Shiv Sena's role could be less effective in supporting BJP to form the government.

Modi wave did it again after the general elections, and the wave was enough to weigh high on the Congress party - winning very few seats in both the states.

In Haryana, BJP is in majority to form the government, winning 47 of the 90 seats. Experts, believe that the elections results could give more power to the NDA government for economic reforms - the need of the hours to bring economic stability in India.

New Government of India: A New Ray of Hope

Having fed up with the increased prices, standard of living and the growing difference between the rich and the poor, the people of India have given their verdict in the form of vote.

New Government is formed in the center by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) under the able leadership of Narendra Modi, who with his exemplary deeds and leadership in Gujarat has won the hearts of people of India.




The kind of response he got from the people and the way people have showered their love and respect on him in the form of votes reveals to us the fact that people believe in him that he will do good for them. But there are many challenges in front of the new Government that needs to be over come if the progress of the nation is to be put on the right track.

Apart from many other things, there are two very important things that need to be addressed. That is to change the law and constitution according to today’s needs, and to change the face of the reservations. The loop holes in the constitution are acting as boon for those who are corrupt and are selfish. The majority of the problems that are bothering have their origin from constitution and laws that do not actually address today’s needs and problems. So, it is high time that we think of re-framing the constitution as per today’s needs.

The other important thing that needs to be addressed is the reservations system. There may be many number of people who have been benefited from the reservation system, but there are equally or even more number of people who have suffered because of it. So, definitely there is a need for second thought about the reservation system. If these two things are addressed on priority basis, it is sure that many problems that are bothering the nation in today’s time will be put to an end.

So, all the best to the Government of the people, by the people and for the people.

JD(U) to leave BJP?

BJP is facing another fresh trouble after the issue of Advani resolved. This time the ally of the BJP and NDA, JD(U) may leave the coalition following elevation of Narendra Modi in BJP.

That was the major reason the made Advani to resign from the party posts and withdraw it after few days of crisis in the party. Several meeting of the BJP leaders were held to bring back Advani to BJP again.

However, the damage was witnessed in the coalition politics with the BJP. Considering the current political scenario, there more chances of building a third front in India politics, which was executed in 1990s, but failed due to many reasons.

The Mamata Banerjee of TMC has suggested for a federation of parties, which could be best alternative to form a government at centre barring BJP and Congress.

The JD(U) has reportedly welcomed suggestion from the TMC, and it may lead to leave the BJP and NDA coalition. The Modi factor did not favour the BJP in the case of the coalition with JD(U) or may be with other its allies.

If the parties come together to form a federation of parties instead of supporting NDA, then the scenario would be more different after the general elections are over in 2014.

L K Advani era ends in BJP

The man who spent maximum time of his life to build the Jan Sangh and BJP, L K Adavani, resigned from posts in the party on Monday. However, the BJP President Rajnath Singh told media after having the parliamentary board meeting to media that, the resignation of Advani was not accepted. Four members were absent in the meeting, he added.

Now its official that the appointment of Narendra Modi for as the Poll Panel chief, which also pointing that, he could be the next Prime Ministerial candidate of the party for the next general election in 2014, was the main reason behind the resignation of L K Advani.

In past also, similar such thing happened, when the then president of the party, Venkaiah Naidu had referred Advani as ‘Loh Purush’ and Atal Bihari Vajpaye as ‘Vikash Purush’. His statement were criticised and many reported that Vajpayee become single in the party and losing grip of his influence on the party leaders. Same thing happened with Advani this time and the reason was Narendra Modi.

According to media reports, the RSS reportedly appealed the BJP President Rajnath Singh that there should not be any changes in the appointment of Narendra Modi as the Poll Panel chief.

Similarly, Uma Bharati was also left the BJP blaming on some of the senior leaders in the party many years ago. Advani said to be the guru of her, and she backed to party after consulting with Advani.

There might be many issues including appointment of Modi, those made senior leader of BJP to tender his resignation.

It is not clear whether he will back to party again, however all the top brass leaders were approaching him regularly.

BJP appoints Modi as head of Poll Panel

It was speculated but not clear until Sunday, everything was clear after the name of Narenda Modi declared by Rajnath Singh, the BJP President, as the chief of Poll Panel. A big responsibility has been given to the firebrand and saffron leader Narenda Modi.

There were differences among the party leaders over appointing Modi as head of the poll panel. The party will follow him for the next general election in 2014. The Goa BJP meeting was proved lucky for the Narendra Modi for the second time in 2013 after in 2002.

After the Godhra riots, the BJP meet at Goa had reportedly planned to out the saffron leader Narendra Modi, but the seniors leaders Atal Bihari Vajpayee and L K Adavi backed him.

However, the name for the prime ministerial candidate is yet not declared, but believed that Modi could be the best leader for the top job. But that may clear during the election time, when the party will start campaign after declaring the candidate for the top job, as it has been doing.

According to some experts, the appointment of Modi as the poll panel would have positive impact on the Hindu vote bank of the party.

Narendra Modi is the leader of BJP’s Campaign Committee

The senior leader of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) L K Adavni has reportedly given his consent to appoint the Guajarat Chief Minister Narenda Modi as the leader of party’s campaign committee. Now it is clear that the party will prepare its campaign for the Goa elections under the leadership of Narenda Modi.

Recently, Advani had praised the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Shivraj Singh Chouhan as "humble man" in a meeting. Since then there were many reports in the media over his statement comparing the Narenda Modi and Shivraj Singh Chouhan. In his speech Advani had praised the work carried out by the chief ministers of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.

Narenda Modi could be the party’s fist choice to project him as the Prime Minister candidate but so far there is no official version from the party yet. It is believed that the party has many senior leaders in the race for top job, and name would be finalized before the election. The party has been projecting the candidate before the election and it may follow its tradition for the 2014 general elections too.

At this time the party said to be preparing resolution and campaign strategy for the Goa elections. According to media reports, the president of BJP Rajnath Singh had called on Advani to discuss parties strategy over the Goa election.

BJP expels Ram Jethmalani for Six Years

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has expelled the senior leader Ram Jetmalani for six year for various reasons on Tuesday. The president of BJP Rajnath Singh took the decision to expel Jetmalani for six years from the party.  

  

According to media reports, the parliamentary board of BJP had taken unanimous decision over this.

Reacting over the expulsion from the party, Ram Jetmalani told media that he would continue his fight against corruption in the party. He is the currently a member of Rajya Sabha. 

Jetmalani had raised the corruption issue in the party and opposed the second term for the then party president Nitin Gadkari. It is noteworthy that many corruption charges were reportedly levelled against Nitin Gadkari, which said to be as the major cause of not getting elected for the second term as Party President. 

Due to the corruption issue only the BJP recently lost its only government in the southern India – Karnataka in the assembly elections. The BJP is gearing up for the mega polls for 2014 and might be trying to sort out the internal differences by taking some core decisions. And expulsion of Jetmalani was believed to be one of the toughest decision for the party.

BJP lost in Karnataka

The recent verdict by voters in Karnatka have defeated the corruption in politics. BJP was ruling party there, which reduced to only 40 seats, where as Congress gained 121 seats out of 224 legislative assembly constituencies in Karnataka. Election was held for 223 seats on May 5, 2013.

Congress is the single largest party in the state, which will form the government in Karnataka after a gap of 9 years.

The BSY and Lingayat Community have deserted the BJP and brought it to minority in the sate. As expected the BJP has lost the only southern state having rule there. The core issue was the corruption, and BJP had to face the music.

If the same equation works in the next general elections, then Congress-led UPA might face the same, as the list of scam there with coalition government at centre.

The NaMo factor did not work there in Karnatka, and time for the party to streamline its further strategies for the next general elections in India.

Corruption and violation of law will not be tolerated: Advani

The Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader L K Advani on said that "If there are differences, the workers should discuss with the leaders. But corruption and violation of law will not be tolerated."

He was addressing public at Ranebennur, in Haveri district in Karnataka. Suprisingly, Advani did not mentioned about the former BJP leader and Chief Minister of Karnataka, BS Yeddyurappa who launched his KJP at Haveri.

In his 20 minutes speech, Advani spoke about the development of the party since the independence and the good performance of the BJP government.

The BJP President Rajnath Singh and senior leader Sushma Swaraj attacked the UPA government over corruption issues while addressing gathering there.

Rajnath Singh Assures Navjot Singh Sidhu

According to media reports, the BJP President Rajnanth Sigh has assured  Navjot Singh Sidhu, the BJP MP, to look after the grievances over the leadership  issues in Punjab BJP.

Couple of days back, the wife of Navjot Singh Sindu reportedly alleged the leaders of BJP.


Rajnath Singh, BJP president, spoke to Sidhu  on the issues and assured him to look into the matters.

It is reported that, since Sidu was busy with ongoing IPL mega cricket event, he would call on the BJP Chief in Delhi after IPL tournament was over.

Political Scenario for 2014 Lok Sabha Elections

Now the cards are clear for 2014 mega battle in the country, which is the biggest festival for the political parties. The much awaited General Elections are going to happen in the next year, and a year is very less time for political parties for their preparations for this mega event.

The major political parties in India – Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party, are ready to jump into the action. It’s now clear that Rahul Gandhi, who has been promoted to Vice President of the party, is going to lead the party for the election.

Even the senior leader Kamal Nath told media that he would like to see Rahul Gandhi as prime ministeria; candidate and whole party men would love to have him as Prime Minister.

Rahul Gandhi is the Prime Ministerial candidate for the Congress Party, and its allies might not have any objection with the decision.

The second largest party in India, BJP, there are many front runners for the Prime Ministerial candidate. But Namo.. Narenda Modi, the leader from Gujarat, is the front runner. The recent campaign in Delhi, is enough to project Modi as PM candidate.

However, it is not official that, BJP to have Narendra Modi as Prime ministerial candidate. There are concerns as well with-in the party and in the NDA parties. One of the parties in NDA coalition, Shiv Sena has demanded declaration of the PM candidate from the BJP.

For BJP it would a big concern to maintain support of NDA parties as post election it is the coalition government to be formed. A single party might not get the complete majority to form the government at center.

Any strong opposition could force the BJP to find the best candidate to project as PM candidate, who could help the party to get maximum seats in Lok Sabha election in 2014 and win the confidence of NDA parties.

The role of regional parties would be vital in 2014 Lok Sabha election, as single party might not get the 2/3rd majority to form the government. There are two biggest alliances in India – UPA and NDA.

But the parties like BSP, SP, AIDMK, DMK, TMC, BJD, CPI(M) will be in king maker role for 2014 elections. Among these parties some are in the government and some other supporting outside. It is also clear the equation for 2014 are sure to change and regional parties will chose the alliance as per the victory and opportunity.

Uttar Pradesh seats are going to decide the fate of the parties in the Lok Sabha as it has maximum Lok Sabha constituencies. All the parties have been gearing up the election 2014, but it also big occasion for the voters to franchise their right to vote in choosing right candidate to the Parliament.

Gadkari steps down, Rajnath to be the BJP Chief

In a significant development, Rajnath Singh, the former president of BJP, is all set to become the party president again.

On Tuesday night, the existing President of BJP, Nitin Gadkari has tendered resignation.

The BJP Parliamentary body meeting at party office is likely to declare the name of Rajnath Singh official as party president.

Rajnath Singh has been a strong leader of BJP from Uttar Pradesh. Experts believe that the BJP will get strength in UP and another states under the leadership of Rajnath Singh, who is known for his clean image in the politics.

Singh was also former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. And after leaving the party president post, Gadkari will have a big role to play in preparing the party for next general elections in 2014.

23 year girl gang-raped in Delhi and died in a Singapore hospital

One of the biggest shame for India and here we’re not just blaming the Government. Because it was our (people’s) fault and we should accept that, because of us a girl been gang raped & at last lost her breath while fighting for her life. Protests are still on the rise with fire burning all around the country. But there are still some unanswered questions which neither the government nor people care about. Instead of a solution, the situation is just getting worse. After this incident more than 25 rapes have been reported around the country. We let people to think why this is happening.

17-year girl molested in public 

A 17-year girl was groped, molested and beaten up harshly in public in Guwahati, Assam. The girl was returning from her friend’s birthday party while a group of nearly 10 young guys molested him. Apart from that one cameraman had shoot the whole 20 minute scene for broadcast instead of helping the victim. Who’s to blame for this?

Ministers watching pornographic content in Assembly

Two of prominent ministers of Karnataka government were watching pornographic content during assembly session. While both of them had defended themselves, but as per the video filmed by local channel they’re watching the videos. Afterwards both the ministers resigned from their posts.

Rohtak shelter abuse scandal

‘Apna Ghar’ the shelter home for children in Haryana, India was alleged with sexual abuse cases. As per reports, children were sexually abused, forced into pornography and abortion. Several alleged person related to the shelter home are undergoing trial for these inhuman activities.

Honour killing took one more life

Abdul Hakim (29) was shot dead as he married to Mehvish, both of different castes. As per the reports, their village Khap Panchayat is suspected to be involved in the case. The incident happened after Abdul Hakim opposed the Khap Panchayat in the honor killing episode of Amir Khan’s show Satyamev Jayate. With Amir Khan, the whole country has reacted to the incident and demanded strong actions against the culprits.

IOC bans Indian Olympic Association

International Olympic Association banned IOC from Olympic events due to which no athlete can participate in Olympics events under Indian flag. IOC had said, “"This is because this is part of a full problem. The election process has been tarnished since the origin. Many different interferences, many governmental rules and their own bad interpretation of IOA statutes.”

Gold medalist athlete Pinki Pramanik gender accusations

Indian Gold medalist athlete Pinki Pramanik was accused of being male when a video of her physiotherapy test at private nursing home went viral online. But the athlete had always defended herself during the case and also accuses of being manhandled during jail.

Other than the above there are a lot of scams like mining, irrigation, NRHM, Uttar Pradesh scams and Gujarat PSU scams. 2012 is certainly not a year to forget but to learn for the people. People should know what they’re doing before they choose leaders, protest and even while giving one paisa. It’s we who can bring the change, not a single leader or a party.

Gujarat Assembly Elections 2012: BJP Wins

It’s a clear and clean victory for Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) under the leadership of Narendra Modi in Gujarat Assembly Election in 2012. This is the third consecutive victory of Narendra Modi in Gujarat.

BJP has been leading on 120 seats out of 182 assembly constitutes in Gujarat, while Congress is leading at 56 seats, GPP is leading at 2.

The BJP President Nitin Gagkari congratulated Narendra Modi for the victory and told media that people of Gujarat voted for the development.

First Phase Voting Begins in Gujarat

Voting for the 87 seats has been started on Thursday in Gujarat. Security has been tightened at all the polling stations for a peaceful voting on the first phase of Gujarat assembly elections.

The ruling party, Bharatia Janata Party has been contesting all 87 seats for the first phase while the major opposition party Congress in the state has been contesting on 84 seats.

Voters have been franchising their exercise at 44,579 polling stations in 15 district of Gujarat, and the voting will be closed at around 5 pm today.

The second phase of voting will start on December 17 for the rest of 95 assembly seats out of the 182 constituencies of the state assembly. And the voting will be held on December 20 in Gujarat.

BS Yeddyurappa exits BJP

Bookanakere Siddalingappa Yeddyurappa, popularly known as B. S. Yeddyurappa , is all set to resign from the primary members ship of Bharatiya Janata Party. He was the former Chief Minister of Karnatka.

The 70-year-old Lingayat leader, Yeddyurappa once was the strongest leader of BJP, who worked for the party now declared his exit from Bharatiya Janata Party.

This will be a big blow for the BJP in the south India. It has been speculated for last couple of months about Yeddyurappa leaving the BJP.

Yeddyurappa will resign from the BJP as well as from MLAship on Friday, 30 Nov 2012, media reported that he would send his resignation to Speaker KG Bopaiah.

Yeddyurappa told media that he would formally join the Karnataka Janatha Paksha in December.
