OLX Celebrates Successful 2014 with Release of New, Year-End Metrics

NEW YORK & BUENOS AIRES, Argentina- -OLX, the top online classifieds platform focused on emerging markets, today marked a successful 2014 with the release of new, year-end metrics illustrating the company’s recent growth. With this year’s expansion into 11 new countries across Southeast Asia and Europe, OLX now has a strong presence in more than 40 countries. In October, OLX also surpassed 200 million active monthly users worldwide. In 2014, these users posted 262 million listings to OLX’s platform, more than four and a half times 2013’s total postings. The company also released a video online today detailing its 2014 success; it can be viewed here.

Widely considered an innovator in the global online classifieds sector, OLX continued to enhance its fast, easy and accessible user experience, particularly on mobile, in 2014. In August, OLX released a streamlined app for Android devices, optimized for slower mobile connections common in emerging markets where OLX operates. In November, the company partnered with Facebook to offer access to online classifieds free of data charges through the Internet.org mobile app, beginning in Tanzania and Kenya, with plans to expand the partnership in other regions.

“2014 was OLX’s most successful year to date,” said OLX cofounder and Americas CEO Alec Oxenford. “Few Internet companies have enjoyed the type of growth that OLX has undergone recently. We are scaling globally and rapidly, introducing the benefits of online classifieds to the emerging world just as we set out to do when OLX first launched in 2006. We are helping people improve their lives and their local communities on a tremendous scale.”

The metrics released today revealed that in 2014, OLX hosted listings for:
  • 21 million jobs
  • 20 million homes for sale and rent
  • 30 million cars
  • 35 million mobile phones
