The food inflation in India has gone up to 12.21 per cent according to the data released by the Ministry of Commerce & Industry on Thursday. The food inflation has increased to 12.21 per cent for the week ended October 22 from 11.43 per cent recorded on the week ended on October 15.
The Finance Minister of India, Pranab Mukherjee said that the inflation is a matter of great concern. According to the data, the annual rate of inflation, calculated on point to point basis, stood at 12.08 percent (Provisional) for the week ended October 22 as compared to 11.75 percent (Provisional) for the previous week ended October 15.
The index for 'Food Articles' group rose by 0.7 percent to 202.2 and Non-Food Articles' group declined by 1.4 percent to 177.2 for the week ended October 22. The food inflation of 12.21 per cent is the highest since Jan 2010.
