ASHA: Association for Socialize and Human Action

ASHA  was started in the year 1994, in Chinturu Mandal, Andhra Pradesh by Mr.Syed Subhani he worked in Girijana Seema Welfare Association from 1983 to1992. He joined as Typist and got promoted according to his commitment as Office Secretary, Executive Secretary and Training in charge.

Asha started Non Formal Education centers, in 5 villages in Kothapalli area, as a starting activity. It later on proceeded with thrift program under Sahaya Podupu Nidhi with focus on women, and succeeded in enrolling, 450 members in 26 groups of 23 villages. At present all NFE centers are taken over by Government as Primary Schools and Thrift groups as Village Organizations. Asha has organized awareness and skill enhancement for lively-hood activities of sustainable utilization and conservation of Natural Resources.

Apart from these, the following have been the achievements of the organization.

  1. In 22 Villages they formed 23 women Self Help Groups with 347 members and the same groups were taken over by VELUGUVOs now they are getting benefits from Government.
  2. ASHA arranged One Boat worth of Rs: 25,000/- to Mr.Paida Gangulu, Patel (Village Elder) of Vemulari Village through ITDA Bhadrachalam. He is a handicapped now his family getting livelihood on this boat giving services to Orissa and Andhra People to cross the Sileru River.
  3. ASHA has negotiated/fought with A.P.F.D for grant of Rs.5.00 Lakhs to Sirasanapalli VSS under APCFM Scheme the sale amount of Bamboo i.e. 100% share, this is the first share amount received by VSS in the Khammam District.
  4. ASHA Selected and appointed Community Health Workers (CHWs) in 20 Villages, now they are serving their own community in their own village and they are helping patients to get treatment from Mandal Headquarters and Bhadrachalam.
  5. In 20 Villages ASHA Supplied Free seedlings like Guava, Mango, Papaya, Drumstick, regularly for five years. And the people are eating the fruits.
  6. ASHA organized 5NFEC enters in 5 Villages for 3years. Around 200 Children and youth are made literates.
  7. ASHA conducted a study 1. “FELLING IMPACT ON REGENERATION OF BAMBOO (D.S) IN EASTERN GHATS”. 2. “STATUS OF UNEMPLOYED TRIBAL YOUTH IN CHINTURU MANDAL” in 2007.
  8. ASHA initiated 10 V.S.S in Chinturu and Lakkavaram Rages of Bhadrachalam South Division and formed Chairman’s Network at Range and Division Level.
  9. ASHA developed 100 acres of land (Land levelling, de-Stumping and Bunding) belonging to 100 tribal farmers in 6 village and we supplied Agriculture implements and we gave trainings on NPM and IPM practices.
  10. Since 10 years ASHA is running one CRECHE center for 0 to 5 year age children at Gondigudem/Dabbagudem Village.
  11. ASHA formed a network of voluntary Organizations called as SAGIT (Sabari Action Group for Integral Transformation) with the V.Os working on Sabari and Godawari belt agency. And the focus of the network is Environment, Empowerment and Education.
  12. In 2006 floods ASHA organized relief and re habilitation to 304 families of 2 villages (Chuturu and Mukunuru) with the support of CWS Hyderabad.
  13. ASHA prepared contingent plans (Flood emergency plan) for two villages i.e. Mukunuru and Chuturu.
Present focus of Asha is Technology intervention for livelihood enhancement in tribal villages based on the natural resources which are untapped or not optimized utilization for the benefit of the concerned stakeholders. Asha proposes to undertake Environment protection awareness with action in Chinturu. Encourage Individual Social Responsibility. Rejuvenate indigenous agricultural practices and encouraging millet production and consumption. Promote and adopt alternate energy resources for improving living conditions of the poor communities.
