Jan Dhan Yojna: Banks achieve target of opening 10cr accounts
Banks have achieved the target of opening 10 crore bank accounts under the Pradhan Matri Jan Dhan Yojna (PMJDY) as target set by the government of India. It is noteworthy, that the government has started the scheme to open bank account of all the citizens to provide them the direct benefit of cash transfer.
The banks have achieved the target before the deadline of January 26, 2015. As of December 26, 2014, around 10.08 crore bank accounts have already been open in various banks in India.
Banks have issued 7.28 crore RuPay Cards as on December 22, 2014. Banks were also asked to complete insurance of passbooks to all account holders, a statement said.
This was reviewed in a meeting attended by executive directors of public and private banks, representatives of IBA, NPCI and UIDAI.
