External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee, who is handling the finance portfolio, will meet top executives of PSU banks tomorrow to review third quarter performance, loan disbursal and the impact of the stimulus packages announced by the government, according to media reports.
The State Bank of India has cut the home loan rate to 8 per cent. Mukharjee may asks banks for cut in the interest rate to check the impact of the global financial crisis on Indian economy.
In last review, the Reserve Bank of India did not change in the rate of interest. However, industrialists were disappointed as the RBI could not pump more money into the system. The meeting with the bankers with Mukharjee would may chalk out some strategies to cut the interest rates.
