PM files Nomination for RS Seat from Assam

Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh has filed his nomination for fifth Rajya Sabha term in Guwahati today, as his Upper House tenure would end on June 14th.

The poll for the two Rajya Sabha seats in Assam would be held on May 30, for which the Prime Minister has filed his nomination papers.

He submitted his nomination papers to GP Das the Legislative Secretary of Assam assembly.

The Prime Minister held the meeting of the Congress Legislature Party in Assam assembly prior to filing his nominations for the firth term of the Upper House.

Dr Singh was accompanied by Tarun Gogoi the Chief Minister of Assam, Bhubaneswar Kalita the President of Assam Pradesh Congress and other ministers.

However, media was not allowed inside the premises to cover the filing of nomination papers by Dr Singh. After filing nominations, the Prime Minister came out and tried to speak to media persons there but due to protest there, he left for Airport.

Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha to debate, vote on FDI

Both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha have accepted the demand for debate that entail voting on FDI in multi-brand retail on Thursday.

The debate and voting will be held on Monday and voting may be held on Tuesday or Wednesday, according to media reports.

Following announcement over discussion followed by a voting, the deadlock of both the houses in Parliament came to end on Thursday.

Considering the rule 184, the speaker of Lok Sabha Meira Kumar considered for debate and voting on the issue of FDI in retail, while the Chairman of Rajya Sabha Hamid Ansari allowed the debate under Rule 168.

The leader of Opposition Sushma Swaraj welcomed the debate and vote on FDI in retail.
