Ms. Sunita narula gets lions club of Delhi teachers excellence award 2012

New Delhi : Lions Club of Delhi has given this year’s Teacher's Excellence Award to Ms. Sunita Narula, New Era Public School, Mayapuri with for her meritorious services. The Award ceremony was organized at India International Centre, Lodhi Estate, New Delhi yesterday evening.

Chief Guest & Award given by Smt. Satinder Kaur, Addl. Director (Education) Govt. of NCT of Delhi to Ms. Sunit Narula, New Era Public School, Maya Puri, New Delhi.

Lions Club International is the largest service organization in the world with nearly 1.5 million members spread in 206 countries across the globe. Lions Club of Delhi has the unique distinction of being the first Chartered Club in India and launching this unique initiative in February 1956. Our club has, since then been continuously serving the cause of the less fortunate and under privileged people in our society.

In a developing country like India teachers have a major role to play to shape the future citizens of the country and build a strong nation. Every year, on the occasion of Teachers Day, our club has been honoring meritorious teachers. This year also our club decided to honor the teaching fraternity at a special function, presided over by an eminent personality, to be held on 22 September 2012.

Teachers Day – It's Importance

Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was the second President of India, from 1962 – 1967. He was also the first, Vice-President of India from the period of 1952 – 1962. He was also a philosopher and statesman. He was born on, 5th September 1888, Tiruttani, now in Tamil Nadu.

Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was one of India's most influential scholars of comparative religion and philosophy, Radhakrishnan built a bridge between the East and the West by showing how the philosophical systems of each tradition are comprehensible within the terms of the other. His academic appointments included the King George V Chair of Mental and Moral Science at the University of Calcutta (1921–1931) and Spalding Professor of Eastern Religion and Ethics at Oxford University (1936–1952).

Radhakrishnan was knighted in 1931 but ceased to use the title "Sir" after India attained independence. Among the many other honours he received were the Bharat Ratna (1954) and the Order of Merit (1963). His birthday is celebrated in India as Teachers' Day on 5 September. Radhakrishnan was elected as the first Vice President of India in 1952. He was elected as the second President of India (1962–1967).

When he became President, some of his students and friends requested him to allow them to celebrate his birthday, 5th September. He replied, "Instead of celebrating my birthday, it would be my proud privilege if 5th September would be observed as Teachers' Day." His birthday has since been celebrated as Teachers' Day in India.

Guru or teacher is given the position of God in our culture and society. He is the one who bestows us with knowledge and helps us progress in life. There are teachers in various fields and levels, we have spiritual teachers we have academic teachers, in fact, each and every thing and person that bestows us with knowledge is a teacher for us. And if we look at that this way, we have various kinds of teachers in our life. And, all we need to do is follow them and take the knowledge, and spread the light of knowledge, to our fellow beings and to the society.
