Airtel offers free Facebook access in 9 regional Indian languages

Bharti Airtel announced that it will offer free Facebook access in 9 regional Indian languages to its prepaid customers across India. Airtel mobile customers who are Facebook users on the Mobile (browser or app) will be able to view or upload photos, post status updates, comment and write on walls, message others in their favorite language, be it Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Marathi, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada or Malayalam. Existing mobile internet customers on Airtel can immediately start connecting with their friends by visiting the Facebook mobile site m.facebook.com. Customers accessing the mobile internet for the first time need to register at m.facebook.com to avail of this special offer.

Airtel is the first mobile operator to enable customers to witness the power of internet on their phones in their favorite languages as the interface is compatible with Feature, Java, Android, iPhone & Windows devices alike. A limited period offer, Airtel will allow customers to access Facebook free of cost with a cap of 30 MB/ month to add Joy to the festivities.

Economics teaches ‘human wants are unlimited and one want is satiable’. Is this definition about wants fit into the modern Smartphone market? Are the users are happy with one Smartphone of late? Technology has been taking a big leap into revolution that is likely to change the lifestyle of civilization in coming days.

WhatsApp bigger than Twitter: CEO Jan Koum

Company founder and CEO Jan Koum said that Messaging app “WhatsApp” now has more users than Twitter.

He also said that WhatsApp has more than 200 million monthly active users; these users are generating an average of 8 billion inbound messages and 12 billion outbound messages per day.

WhatsApp Messenger is available for iPhone, Android, BlackBerry and Nokia, this messenger allows users to exchange messages without having to pay for SMS. Since its founding in 2009, it has been providing free service. But WhatsApp is slowly phasing an annual fee of 99 cents.

Powered by a robust Network API backbone and a simple front-end User Interface prepared by partner IBM, the myairtel app allows customers of various Airtel services (mobile, fixed line, DTH etc.) to check outstanding bills, recharge, make payments, activate-deactivate services, raise requests and complaints etc. The application is available as a free download for Android as well as iOS based mobile phones, and has recorded more than a million downloads since its launch in September 2012.

Judges ranked myairtel as the leading application in this category based on the use of mash-ups of multiple Network APIs to provide innovative examples of applications that can include information from mobile networks to improve their value to the user or utilise the capabilities of a network operator to improve the way the application can be used by a mobile user.

My Airtel app clocks 200k downloads within 2 weeks of launch

21 September 2012: Bharti Airtel's 'my airtel' app has clocked over 200,000 downloads across Android, iOS, Blackberry and other platforms.


Launched just 2 weeks ago, the app features on top downloaded apps lists on the Apple and Android platforms.


'my airtel' app empowers customers to manage their Airtel services like postpaid, prepaid mobile connection, broadband, fixedline and digital TV, seamlessly.


Customers can download the application by simply logging into airtel.in/myairtel or visiting their device app store. Alternatively, they can also SMS 'myairtel' to 54321 or via a QR code.
