5 beauty tips for Valentine’s Day for Men and Women

IN · · Leave a Comment
beauty tips
This article has been written by Ms. Roopali Chauhan, Course Director, JD Institute of Fashion Technology.

1. Follow the basics religiously: It’s important to stick to the basics no matter what. Follow your everyday routine of CTM- cleansing, toning and moisturizing to maintain optimum skin health. Also, keep in mind to exfoliate once every week to stimulate the production of new cells on the surface of the skin.

2. Indulge: Valentine’s is synonymous to pampering, so why not pamper your skin too. Indulge in the healthy yet sinful temptations this February to get that amazing glow you’ve always craved for. Chocolate lovers have a reason to rejoice! Dark chocolate can have many benefits for your skin too when used as a facemask. Dark chocolate cleanses your skin, leaving it smoother and softer than ever before.

3. Keep Lips Kissable: Ditch the intimidating red lipstick and aim for soft, natural-looking lips. "Choose a soft pink or berry hue no more than two shades darker than your lip color," says makeup artist Neil Scibelli.

4. Create a Glow: For a lit-from-within radiance, apply a liquid highlighter under your foundation. "The combo lets just enough shimmer through for a natural-looking glow," says Cory Bishop, Temptu makeup artist.

5. Makeup trends right now: According to Caitlin Callahan, a senior makeup artist with the MAC Pro Team, dark eyelids or colours that "pop" on the lips are the hot looks this season. Also, aim for "silk stocking" skin, she says. Instead of applying heaps of foundation, Callahan suggests using tinted moisturizers or face and body foundations. Think dewy, not greasy.

What makeup mistakes do women often make when trying to go sultry and what can they do to avoid these mistakes?
"A mistake is focusing on every feature,"Choose a focus and go with it. If you go for the orange 'pop' lip, keep everything else soft – a little mascara and blush only."

FOR MEN
Don’t stink, but don’t smell like roses either. The last thing you want is a scent that will clear a room. Use an unscented aluminum-free deodorant to avoid overwhelming your date’s sense of smell – a scented deodorant paired with cologne is overkill.

P.S. - Jewelry or chocolate? Maybe none of the neither. Maybe a gift certificate for a massage or pedicure - either by a professional, or better yet, maybe by you. Treat her to something that will leave her feeling pampered and precious.

Accept Indian Ethnic Wear As Power Dressing!

Accept Indian Ethnic Wear As Power Dressing!
With new trends and styles setting in, the Indian attire is losing its sheen in the corporate wear. People shy away from wearing Indian wear in office. There is a steady decline in women voluntarily choosing to wear sarees and men to wear kurta’s as a way to power dress. Most people today opt for business suits to feel at par with the the overall concept of power dressing.

JD Institute of Fashion Technology is the first institute to take responsibility and encourage its people to sport Indian wear with full élan.Keeping this in mind, JD Institute of Fashion technology, spread across 21 states of India with 30 different centres’ is taking a pledge this Republic Day to be dressed in the Indian attire once a week for the whole year.

In order to keep alive the feeling of patriotism and keep intact the culture of our nation, this pledge has been taken, says Mr. RC Dalal, Executive Director, JD Institute of Fashion Technology. While we already train more than 5000 students all across the nation to think creatively and start a fashion trend every year, it will be nice to look back into our own culture and tradition and look at rich textile heritage for not only selling but also to wear the same in various areas of power, he adds.

It will be worthwhile to see designers to wear Indian clothing on ramp when they enter the International Fashion Weeks. It will inspire the whole nation to respect our own dressing and make it as powerful.

While politicians always wear Indian clothing to be more acceptable amongst the people all across the nation, it was worthwhile to see Shri Narendra Modi , our Prime Minister to give a new version to working kurtas during various rally’s and public meeting during the election.

This may have started at an institute but we intend to make this into a movement!

5 Cosmetic Treatments for Brides to Be
Dr. Reema Arora, Cosmetic Physician, Reva, Delhi

If you have already taken the marital plunge, you would know the many concerns that cloud your mind in the build up to the Wedding Day. One of the many worries experienced by the bride is about her appearance and skin. Some want to get rid of scars and blemishes, others desire more facial glow.

So, if you are looking for viable solutions to multiple skin problems or desire a more even complexion, skin tone and glow, you can pick and chose from the following options:

Chemical Peels: Chemical peels is a simple procedure that stimulates skin regeneration and helps reveal a fresh, smoother and clearer layer of skin. With time, continuous sun exposure and environmental onslaught, the skin loses its sheen. Dead cells crowd the upper layer of the skin, making it appear dull, tanned, pigmented and lifeless. Using chemical agents, a dermatologist will help exfoliate or scrub out this damaged and dull upper layer of the skin, and a fresh new layer of skin takes its place. This new regenerated skin is free from scars and blemishes, pigmentation and tanning and is full of life and vigor. This procedure will give you a clearer complexion, even and brighter skin tone and glow.

Laser Hair Removal: Body hair is another major worry that women have to deal with throughout life, especially those who have excess hair. Regular waxing routines can be an irritant. A lot of time is wasted in the routine twice a month. If, for some reason, you are unable to wax or shave you have to be restricted in what you wear. No waxing means no short sleeves, no short skirts. Laser hair removal is a preferred way to get rid of the worry permanently. It is also one of the most popular treatments brides seek.

Juvederm Refine: One of the most notable concerns of women is lack of glow and skin dullness. Every bride wants to look radiant and glowing on her wedding day and the following few days when she goes about meetings new friends and family. Hyaluronic acid based fillers like Juvederm Refine are a very good way of achieving long lasting radiance and glow. Hyaluronic acid, when administered into the skin, helps the dermis absorb and retain water. This gives the skin a beautiful glow and radiance. Moreover the effects of this quick procedure last for a good six months. Some women also like to get the procedure done on their hands to make them appear more beautiful, especially before applying henna.

Hair & Scalp Treatment: Along with skin, hair is another major worry for women. Dull, rough, lifeless hair, split ends, dandruff can be immensely worrying especially before the wedding. It is recommended that a few weeks before the wedding get your hair and scalp examined by a dermatologist. Dandruff also leads to hair fall. If you have dandruff you may need antibiotics – both oral and topical -- to treat the infection. The hair may then need rejuvenating treatments like hydrating spa, or laser hair combing to give your hair more life and vigor.

Botox: Today, as more and more women delay their plans to settle down and dedicate more time to establishing their careers, some of them have to also deal with early signs of ageing like fine lines and wrinkles. Botox helps to reduce the stress lines on the forehead and the crow’s feet around the eyes, giving you a younger, fresher and a more relaxed appearance.

Bonita launches in-a-first health-friendly stainless steel bowls fit for microwave use

Bonita launches in-a-first health-friendly stainless steel bowls fit for microwave use
  • Paradise Microwavable Freeze Bowls will provide alternative to plastic, which is touted as unsafe for heating purposes
  • Available in a set of three eye-catchy bowls, each one is good to freeze, store, reheat and serve food

In no less than a revolution, India’s leading home utility maker -- Bonita -- has launched stainless steel bowls which can be used in microwave for heating purposes, finally bringing to an end worries of homemakers who until now had no option other than using plastic utensils, some of which are rendered unsafe for health.

Plastic utensils replaced to a large extent glass products used for heating eatables in microwave on account of being easy to handle.

However, health hazards related to them made people cautious in their use. But in the absence of any alternative, people had no choice but to either use fragile glass or unsafe plastic products for microwaving food.

The introduction of Bonita’s latest product -- Paradise Microwavable Freeze Bowls -- not only will bring reprieve to those worried about the health risks of plastic, but also make the homemakers’ lives convenient by limiting the hassles of storing food in different containers for freezing, heating and serving as now all of that can be done in colorful and eye-catchy Bonita bowl.

Bonita India
“Recent researches have shown that when heated, there is a tendency for many plastics to leach chemicals which are very harmful for health. These chemicals are believed to cause a lot of health issues like obesity, hit fertility rate giving rise to reproductive problems, and cancer. One should avoid microwaving food in plastic containers as most of us don’t know the grade of the plastics okay for use.

Even for plastics which are termed ‘Microwave safe’, they are only tested for withstanding the microwave heat and are not tested for food safety. When plastic Bowls claim to be ‘Microwave Safe’, it does not automatically mean ‘Food Safe’. We should even avoid freezing food in plastic bowls, because the temperature can cause chemicals to leach into eatables once we heat them. So I strongly suggest use of ceramic, glass or stainless steel products for food products,” says Dr Swati Srivastava, Nutritionist and Founder of Health Today.

Paradise Microwaveable Freeze Bowls have a built-in stainless steel interior and the exterior of the product has a heat-proof plastic covering, which saves the bowls from any scratches. Given the interior is stainless steel, the food is not exposed to plastic, hence it remains safe.

“We have tested this product as per most stringent standards i.e. European Standards for Microwave Safe testing at TUV Sud which is a premier International lab. Under this European standard, the bowls are tested for microwave safety for short duration (3 mins) and long duration (15 mins) as also checks the temperature post the procedure. Bonita bowls satisfies all the parameters. The airtight plastic lid keeps the content fresh for a very long time. A single bowl is sufficient to store, freeze, reheat and serve food. We have also applied for the patent rights for this technology,” says Umang Srivastava, Joint Managing Director, Bonita.

Available in a set of stackable three bowls in as many colors such as red, turquoise green and purple, the trendy Paradise Microwavable Freeze Bowls is being launched on the online space exclusively on Snapdeal and they will also be available at all leading retail stores.

“Snapdeal is the leader in Home & Kitchen category in the digital market and Bonita is the brand leader in Home Utility category. We are providing our platform and national reach to Bonita for launching their unique and innovative Paradise Microwave safe Freeze Bowls. These will be available online, exclusively on Snapdeal.com and we are confident that there will be an overwhelming response to Bonita’s products. This is the beginning of a long term partnership and we will introduce many more exclusive products with Bonita in the coming months,” says Saurabh Bansal, Associate Vice President – Home, Snapdeal.com.

The company alongside has also launched Glory Snack Servers and Ecstasy Dessert Bowls in similar colours as of Paradise Microwavable Bowls to create a complete range. The Glory Snack Server comes with a tray and spoon and is available in a set of five and seven pieces, while it is a set of 14 for Ecstasy Dessert Bowls. The colors of the bowls are long lasting and of Food Grade Quality. They are durable and dishwasher safe too.

Bonita’s products are aimed at the small urban homes of Indian metros and serve the dual needs of meeting the storage requirements and adding beauty to home décor.

The vast range of Bonita products include beautifully designed Laundry Baskets, Space Saving Vacuum bags, Elegant Ironing Boards and Silicone Pads, Space Saving Wall Dryers and colourful Shoe Racks, among others.

Safety in Closed Doors and Closed Hearts?

IN · · Leave a Comment
We feel safe in the closed door of our room or closed door of our house, we feel even safer in the four walls and the boundary of our house.

We have a sense of security when we are with our own family and when some unknown person comes we are afraid.

If we are left in an open place we become afraid we don’t feel secure. What is this safety that we are seeking in the closedness?

We are afraid of talking openly, we don’t want to open our heart and be plain and simple in our day to day interactions with others. Why? Because we don’t want to get hurt or we don’t want to get used by others, or even more valid reason because in that way things don’t happen in today’s world.

Safety
Knowingly or unknowingly we feel secure and safe when we build boundaries and walls around ourselves, whether it is a house or a heart.

We don’t want anyone to penetrate and share our space. Till the time there was only earth there was only the difference of races human and animal, there was only one race human race and every one lived together happily.

But as soon as people started building boundaries and boarders separation of people and separation of hearts started. My country, your country, my state your state, my language your language, my culture and your culture and the list is unending.

In earlier days people used to find safety and security living together and helping each other. Now a days we find it secure and safe in isolation and separation, whether it is humans or states or countries.

There is a huge difference in the times then and now and in the attitude of the people then and know. The lifestyle that we lead and the money race that we are in has hardened our hearts and made us seek safety and security in closeness, instead of being open, we are no longer free, we have imprisoned our bodies in the four walls and we have imprisoned our hearts in unseen walls.

But we have to realize the fact that real life lies behind those closed doors of our hearts and our houses. And the day we open our eyes to this fact and we open the doors of our heart, sunshine comes in throwing away all the darkness and bringing in new life.

Get a slender, beautiful Neck with Botox

IN · · Leave a Comment
The anti-ageing marvel Botox can also be used to beautify the neck

Dr. Janak Thakkar, Orna Skin- Advanced Laser & Hair Care Centre, Rajkot

Beauty may lie in the eyes of the beholder, but it has many dimensions. For some, eyes reflect the beauty of a person, for others a glowing skin is what constitutes beauty. For still others, a beautiful neck is as much a reflection of beauty as is the face.

Neck is also the area of the body that can become the biggest give away of your age, for the thin skin of the neck sags early and more visibly.

While we all know the effective use of wonder drug Botox in erasing the wrinkles of the face, do you know it can also be used to beautify the neck in a procedure interestingly named Nefertiti Neck.

The legendary 14th century BC queen of Egypt Nefertiti was as much renowned for her beauty as she was for her policies and active involvement in the affairs of her kingdom. One look at the portrait of Nefertiti and you will know why the neck beautifying procedure is named after her. A slender, long and beautiful neck augmented Nefertiti’s beauty manifolds.
botox

With modern technology and research giving us miraculous powers, many women of the day are getting their necks crafted like Nefertiti with a simple and brief non-invasive procedure using Botox.

A major feature of ageing is the sagging skin under the chin and on the neck. Even if you have kept your face looking gleaming and beautiful, your neck will certainly give away your age. Nefertiti neck is a procedure that addresses the contours of the area of the neck and the chin. It's not as common as Botox for frown lines and crow’s feet but it is fast gaining popularity among women and some men. The reason is that not many people are aware of it. Cosmetologists, however, say that such is the effect of the procedure that if people who get it done once often come back to repeat it”.

Using Botox, the sagging of the skin can be reduced by reducing the downward pull of the muscles. The neck lift will allow you wear off shoulder dresses too. The procedure helps contour the jawline by redefining the chin, the jaw and the neck into more beautifully crafted, wrinkle free features. A younger looking and beautifully contoured neck and chin is what you get through the procedure.

So, if you long for a beautiful neck that allows you to wear off-shoulder dresses too, a few minutes at a cosmetologist can do wonders for you. But make sure to go to a trained expert.Sometimes, Botox can be used in conjugation with fillers like Juvederm to also give greater depth to the chin or broadness to the jaw.

Jawline correction with Botox is a procedure especially popular among men in whom a wide jawline is considered a desired beauty trait.

The best part is that it is a non surgical non invasive procedure which uses just Injectables. It takes just a few minutes and little downtime

A ‘hand-full’ of beauty: At this year’s Dandiya nights, make your hennaed hands the most striking

IN · · Leave a Comment
Dr Ranjan Upadhyaya, Dermatologist, Desmoderm skin clinic, Delhi
It is a centuries-old tradition of decking up your hands with patterns of deftly crafted artistic designs but it never fails to excite.

The sight of a henna cone is always attractive for a woman and festivals are just the right excuse to display your beautifully patterned hands.

While you do everything to make sure your henna color turns out to be the darkest -- applying clove oil and lemon –what about the hands themselves?

Why not make your hands the most beautiful part of your body before colored patterns leave them all the more striking.

Mostly for women, their face their only skincare focus with all their beauty regimen revolving around it.
dandiya
No wonder, hands often become the most prominent giveaways when it comes to betraying your age or displaying the damage caused on skin due to daily wear and tear.

The hands are parts of the body that we expose to a lot of wear and tear, by frequent use of soap & detergents and exposing to sun light.

These stresses contribute to skin dryness when the natural fat in the skin barrier is diminished. And while we take care of the needs of our face, we only seldom extend our regimen to the hands.

This year, as you gear up to celebrate Navratri, get all decked up in a lehnga- chunni with henna on your palms, and dance to the tunes of Garba and Dandiya, make sure your hands look beautiful like never before. A session with Restylane Vital skinboosters can give perfect beauty radiance to your hands.

“Women often come to us expressing displeasure at the way their hands look. Even when their faces are radiant as ever, their hands would look dull, pale and wrinkled with veins protruding out. While a regular regime of manicure would be needed every two months and would consume time, a brief session with Restylane Vital skinboosters would give wonderful results, replenishing the lost beauty of the hands from within. What more, the impact of the procedure lasts for almost a year.

Using microinjections, stabilized hyaluronic acid is implanted into the outer layers of the skin and works naturally to hydrate the skin from within.

Restylane Vital Skinboosters is a new age therapy that moisturizes the skin from within and replenished the lost reserves of moisture as hyaluronic acid is a hydrophilic substance that attracts water and helps retain moisture into the skin.

This not only makes the hands look younger, but also more beautiful and bright. It diminishes appearance of veins, improves skin tone and luster, restores hydrobalance and increases skin elasticity.

Experts say men and women often ignore their hands and neck, when it comes to their beauty regimes. Often we even fail to follow the basic minimum routine of moisturizer and sunscreen when it comes to hands.

The skin on the back of your hands is different from the skin in the palm of your hands. There are no hair follicles in the palm of your hands and the skin is thicker, which makes the skin on the underside more resistant to wear and tear. However, this is not so for the back of the hands, which start looking aged and wrinkled earlier.

“As the trend of looking young and beautiful spreads, women today are inarguably becoming more concerned about their hands. Some are extremely particular about ensuring regular manicure routines to push the signs of ageing, others are open to cosmetic procedures to reverse the signs. Unlike the face, making hands look younger is more difficult given the thinness of the skin at the back of the hands. However, a session with Restylane Vital can drastically change the way your hands look. Especially when you are preparing to flaunt a beautiful finger ring or henna.

When used on the face, Restylane Vital can bring your lost glow back and give your skin a perfect hydrated look. The loss of hyaluronic acid is one of the most important causes of wear and tear and lack of elasticity that our skin shows. Once replenished into the skin, it works just the way it would work naturally to bring glow and radiance back to your face.
