Role of IT in Parenting

IN · · Leave a Comment
IT has become an integral part of many aspects of an individual’s life. Even in the parenting space, digital technology is transforming the way families improve their lives, as everyone is making use of latest technologies for entertainment, education, management and other various purposes. Although digital platforms have been part of parenting for some time now, only now they are beginning to develop engaging and personalized experience for modern day busy parents.

It seems that one of the most important innovations is in evolution of digital productivity tools platforms that help parents to manage their lives around kids. Such tools facilitate managing doctor visits, immunizations, tracking social, cognitive and physical growth of their children, building kids’ timeline etc – basically all aspects of lives around kids. While parents are overwhelmed with information, algorithms in these tools can connect parents to only the most relevant and personalized resources, e.g. proactively connecting parents to a psychologist, if certain behavioural tendencies are spotted in a child. However, such tools would be most effective if parents can sign up from the stage they conceive and utilize them till the time their kids get into their teens – i.e. a one-stop solution for their digital productivity tools needs. Good news is that such digital platforms are emerging in the market that offers intuitive and secure digital ‘productivity tools’ for parents.

Not only this, digital platforms can help build better parent-kid relationships by helping parents to understand their kid’s behaviours, psychology etc. in better and simpler manner, thereby helping parents to interact, respond and connect with their children more effectively.

As children grow up, they begin to explore the vast world of digital media. Children these days can easily access internet through desktops, laptops, tablets or smart phones. To safeguard their children from negative online experiences and malicious content, parents are taking extra precautions like giving limited access to internet, using parental controls or educating them about proper use of internet. Many digital platforms are available nowadays to help parents track activities of their kids on online or on social network and guide those to right path if they are doing something wrong.

In conclusion, IT space is going through a rapidly evolving stage and the innovation is aimed to transform the way modern day parenting is done. On one hand, these platforms can be a boon for modern day busy parents, but if not used properly, they can be a bane as well. Instead of parents being on one side and children on other, they should work together, to harness the full potential of digital platforms for making their lives more effective and efficient.

IMImobile continues to deliver innovation on Twitter, launching 'Tweet to Donate' for the Post Office

Mumbai, India - IMImobile, a global technology company providing software and services which help businesses capitalise on the growth in mobile communications, today announced its development of 'Tweet to Donate', an innovative new service used by the Post Office. The service has made the Post Office the first UK organisation to enable and process donations via Twitter as part of being a fundraising partner to the BBC's Children in Need charity campaign, 'Be A Hero'.

IMImobile has worked in partnership with the Post Office and their media agency Mindshare to create and deliver the 'Tweet to Donate' mobile payment solution. Users who would like to make a donation to BBC Children in Need simply follow the Post Office (@PostOffice) on Twitter and tweet the hashtag #MakeMeAHero. Users then receive a direct message with a URL to a landing page (served within Twitter) through which they can donate £1, £3 or £5. The donation will be debited from the user's phone bill or the pay as you go balance. The solution, accessible across mobile, tablet and desktop PC, uses the mobile payment service Payforit, with the full amount going to BBC Children in Need.

Mobile sits at the heart of the Twitter experience, and according to Nielsen, 80% of Twitter users access the service through a mobile device, and 3 in 5 of Twitter mobile users access Twitter whilst watching TV. The 'Tweet to Donate' service fully unlocks the potential of the Post Office's
involvement in the fundraising campaign, giving Twitter users an opportunity to donate through the social media channel. The payment solution also breaks down previous social media barriers, allowing users to donate money directly within the social media environment. Furthermore, it opens the opportunity for other brands to integrate mobile payment solutions into the Twitter environment, significantly increasing the opportunity to monetise the social media channel beyond social engagement.

Why Guest Posting Is In Danger?

IN · · Leave a Comment
SMG Convonix
Guest Posting for many marketers has been rescue of sorts. With all the available link sources slowly depleting, this has been the only stable provider for link juice to websites after the recent Google updates. This like all other link avenues in the past has been exploited to the fullest & big G is fully aware of this. Almost everyone by now has predicted that Google will definitely bring out a change in its algorithm to bring out an even playing ground for everyone. And taking into account Google’s past approaches (punitive actions) to the link source abuse, the change is only a matter of time.

This has led the digital marketing world into a tizzy as to what ideally should be their approach for guest posting? Should one leave completely the guest posting avenue & move on to something else? Or wait for the next Google update which might dent into the recent efforts of content outreach? Should one use do follow/no follow links for content outreach? If do follow is being used, then how many links from the content? Nobody exactly knows the answer to these questions as to what should one do to make their content outreach program full proof from here.

As always, the best thing to do when facing such a situation is to go back to the basics. Google has always been very clear about giving the best search experience to its users. The recent approach that has been suggested by Google is “If you link to something with the intent that it should help your Google rankings – then nofollow the link. If you write something without that intent and the link is really natural, then there is no reason to nofollow the link”

Now the next question is how does one give weightage to our need of passing the value via content outreach & on the other hand what Google is saying? We all know that many website owners & businesses hire content writers to generate outstanding content month after month. This content is specially created so that it can be shared across relevant niche domains so that link value can be achieved. When Google says “ If you write something without that intent and the link is really natural, then there is no reason to nofollow the link” – it means when you share content which is very outstanding, extremely relevant to the audience, a hot topic which is trending & making people buzz about it, only then should one use a do follow link. This seems a very good idea at the outset & makes us all feel that this is the right step moving forward to make web search more relevant & meaningful. However this implementation seems extremely lofty since creating such content in itself is such a huge challenge. Moreover the whole idea seems to directly affect the backbone of SEO – link building as a whole. These changes make one limited to on-page optimization. How does one make his site rank for keywords which his target audience searches for week after week? The only other alternative remaining with us is to use citation sources. In addition, we do have scope of utilizing niche directories as well which too are soon going to come under scanner. In addition, the relevant niche directories are numbered after the updates. Both of the above link sources have their constraints.

Thus guest posting is an extremely invaluable modus operandi to make a site tick for its search terms. Google too is fully aware of this & thus has not taken any punitive action against guest posting despite content being posted in exchange for money without considering relevance & quality of the content along with the other abuse this medium has suffered.
The only solution to this is we as search engine professionals use this invaluable resource thoughtfully. Here are a few steps that we can take-
1. Ensure that only quality content is posted (The term quality is subjective. However we need to be rationale while deciding on the content)
2. Balance of do follow/ no follow links in a content
3. Trying to use all types of anchor text in your backlinks to reach a balanced link profile
4. We still need to target our keywords in content outreach however we need to decide which keywords are our priority & need to be targeted in content outreach while others can be targeted via other mediums. Let us not forget that content outreach is the last ace in our hands.
It is highly unlikely Google will ban guest posting since it knows the immense value that fresh content adds to web search. However it is high time we pull our socks up & use this invaluable resource in moderation since Google will definitely keep an eye on the abuse of this medium. We need to take the above mentioned steps not only to avoid our sites being affected with the next update but also to save this tool called Guest Posting which we are so highly dependent on.

Evolving Sources of News for Journalists - "#MediaInsights Report"

IN · · Leave a Comment
IIMC
New Delhi:Research jointly conducted by 20:20 MSL and IIMC to study the changing patterns of news sourcing by journalists, especially with the advent of social media

In an attempt to demystify the rapidly evolving media universe in India and shed light on the growing appeal of new-age alternatives to the press release, 20:20 MSL (part of MSLGROUP, Publicis Groupe's strategic communications and engagement consultancy and the largest PR network in India) in strong collaboration with the Advertising & Public Relations Department of the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) today launched the "#MediaInsights report", the first-of-its kind research to arrive at insights that would benefit India's media and communications industry.

When a piping hot story is on the anvil, only one in eleven journalists would use more than half the press releases that flood their email inboxes. Internal brainstorming sessions remain the most preferred among many, when it comes to exercising their grey cells in the newsroom. An emphasis on the diversity of content from the media has driven a series of compelling changes in the conventions of news sourcing among journalists and other media professionals. The public sentiments that are considered in constructing a story, the advent of the social media space as a hub for story ideas and extensive use of official websites to cull out authentic data are some of the most striking industry-wide changes that the report has highlighted.

Commenting on the report, Mr. Chetan Mahajan, Managing Director, 20:20 MSL said, "It is imperative for a next generation insights-driven agency to understand the media environment in order to be a strategic advisor to the stakeholders. We jointly conducted this research with IIMC, in order to get insights to address the gap between news-makers, news-consumers and the media. The report has successfully mapped the changes and brought out some compelling facts. I believe that this report will help PR practitioners in best aligning their strategies and tactics."

Mr. Sunit Tandon, Director General, Indian Institute of Mass Communication welcomed the report as "the first in a series of such studies that would be useful for all who are interested in understanding the rapidly changing contours and dynamics of the Indian news media sector."

The research was conducted with a stratified sample of 309 journalists nationwide cutting across age, gender, specialization etc. The report also focuses on several statistical data sets including the following:

(i) The ratio of stories produced by senior correspondents to those filed by young reporters
(ii) The frequency of social media usage in newsrooms, and
(iii) The reliance that journalists place on the Internet for sourcing news
(iv) The male versus women reporters' behavior towards different news sources

Public Opinion: Role of Social Media

IN · · 1 comment
 social media and public opinion
In a democracy the public opinion matters like anything, and obviously quantity is dominating the judgement. In the country like India, where politics has hardly on its path of political reforms, here comes the role of social media in contributing to the object.

Social media has been widely accepted by youth, and they are citizens of the country. They decide their leaders; they elect them and send to the temples of democracy – Parliament, State Assemblies, State Legislative Councils.

Over the decade, the popularity of social media has made significant changes, the present of political leaders and using this platform justifies the view. It would not be wrong to say that, through social media, public opinion could be gathered for various purposes and for political reforms.

On the contrary, the wrong use or paid publicity could also hamper the political reform process. So, the judgement should not be taken on that particular media. Social media in India no doubt at the peak but still it needs to achieve the complete formation to establish astonishing role to bring changes in the political reforms.

What would be the impact on the society if social media manages to gather best public opinion? The answer lies that, the main stream media is now capable of bring changing the society and stopping corruption, by highlighting or exposing the matters, while having concrete evidences to their claim.

One day, the social media could also reach the top position, where the users’ opinion could bring many fold changes into the society – politically. The social networking sites like –facebook, twitter, Google plus and linked in have been widely accepted by the people in the world including Indians.

Political leaders come to know about the greater role the social media is going have in future. Now you can follow prominent leaders on some sites and put your questions. If the social media takes giant share then its role would be important in bringing political reforms in India and maintaining the inflow of public opinion for a better society, better India.

The new feature allows users with the option to control the viewing of community posts on their profile pages. Communities is a very interesting tool for people with common interests. Facebook Phone will be launched today – Truth or Rumor?

IN · · Leave a Comment
Facebook has announced of a press event to be held today at its headquarters in Menlo Park, California, USA. This will be the first event at the Facebook headquarters since the initial public offering. Some says Facebook will be revealing its phone and some really doubt the idea.

Will Facebook phone come out today?

The only thing that Facebook told the media is “come and see what we’re building.” While some believes that Facebook will be launching something related to increase social interactions and some says it is building a mobile OS.

Why Facebook needs a smartphone?

As the competitors growing strong and Facebook not making much revenue in last quarter, Facebook may want to go strong in the smartphone segment. By offering its phone, it would be easy for world’s no.1 social network to grasp more market and beat competitors like Google.

In earlier 2012, it’s been reported in media that HTC is building a smartphone for Facebook. But at the same time it’s been seemed to be untrue as HTC itself is going under a competition phase with Samsung, Nokia and Apple.

There is also the possibility of Facebook launching a mobile OS instead of a phone, much similar to android or iOS. As Android is the most widely used mobile platform, so Facebook may want to launch its own OS and may be it will be open sourced too.

With the mystery still to be revealed, Facebook stock prices has crossed $32 for the first time, bringing good news to investors. Facebook stock prices are higher now because of its mobile applications and mobile ads, which counts 14% of its total revenue. It’s also expected that the stock prices will cross $38 and higher.

With great confusion and expectations, we wait for today’s event and see what’s there at Facebook.

P.S - On the other side there is a report, more than 600,000 UK users have dropped Facebook due to privacy policy issues. The report was provided by social monitoring firm SocialBakers.

Why you should start using Google Plus

IN · · Leave a Comment
Google’s social network has not been old enough like Facebook or Twitter, but it’s getting some popularity among businesses, companies and individuals. Because as per the statistics, there are now more than 400 million users registered in Google +, with more than 100 million monthly active users. Apart from that more than 1 million businesses pages has been created in Google +.

Even many people still doubt on why they should use Google +, we give you a list of benefits you can find at Google +.

Personalized Search Results
Google is the kingpin of search results and with a Google+ profile; it will be easy for you to show yourself and your business on Google search results. Even now when you search a name on Google, either the person’s Facebook or Linkedin profile pops.

The reason you can’t find a Google + profile, because the person isn’t in Google plus. So I guess it’s time to see you or your business name on Google even you’re not popular on Facebook or Twitter.

Great place for bloggers
If you’re a blogger and like to share your content and ideas, then Google + can help you by drawing audience from your circles and groups. Around 60-70 % bloggers user Gmail for email messaging, so it can be easy for them to connect with each other.

New features
Google has recently introduced some new features from which the Groups is a key feature. Like Facebook groups, Google groups can be a best place to share your ideas, thoughts and content.

‘Communities’ is another strongest concept of Google +, where people can directly connect with their interests. Now you can also comment of on any post and re-share it with your friends and contacts.

Non-spammy
If you’ve been into SEO business, then you’ve known about Google’s new algorithm to eliminate spammy sites and links. Thus it would be much more difficult for spam sites to find a place in Google search. So Google+ can be your way into search results and build a genuine professional business.

Some improvements people might like –
  • Bring more business domains and also value local businesses
  • Control over customer reviews
  • HTML business pages or more dynamic pages, with analytic functions
  • Invite functionality on business pages
Even there are so many things Google needs to add in Google plus, still it’s proving to be a competitor before other social networks. So why not give a try to this and try to improve through valuable feedback.
